Energy deregulation means you have the option to choose your own electricity and/or natural gas supplier instead of buying your energy from your local utility. Energy suppliers sell a variety of plans with rates and perks that suit your lifestyle.
Here are the players in a deregulated energy market:
Generators: They produce the energy used to power your home.
Suppliers: That’s us! We shop for energy on the open market and compete with other suppliers to sell it to you.
Utilities: They deliver the energy to your home, respond to emergencies, and usually send you your bill.

Why should I switch to NRG for my energy supply?
At NRG, we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. You are unique, and we want to provide you with an energy plan that best suits your needs. We have an assortment of rates and plans that come with perks like travel rewards, cash back, green energy and more so you can choose the best one for your home.
How do I sign up with NRG?
Signing up with NRG is easy – just select your plan and complete our brief enrollment form online or by phone. Be sure to have a copy of your most recent utility bill handy. After your enrollment is complete, we’ll be your energy supplier after up to 1-2 billing cycles.
Once you switch to NRG, you don’t have to do anything differently than what you do now. You’ll experience no interruption in service and you’ll still receive your bill from your utility. The only difference is that your supply charges will be from us and not your utility. Your utility will continue to deliver your electricity, read your meter and take care of any emergencies or outages.
Are there any fees to switch?
No, NRG does not charge switching, setup or enrollment fees. If you’re currently in a fixed contract with another supplier, that supplier may charge you an early termination fee.
How long does it take to switch?
In most states, your NRG service will take from one to two billing cycles to begin, depending on your utility.
Will my service be interrupted while switching?
No, your service will not be interrupted during the switching process. Nothing about how your service is delivered will change. Your local utility company will continue to deliver your energy, read your meter, service emergencies, handle all customer questions, and send your monthly energy bill. Once your service with NRG begins, NRG will show as a line item in the supply portion of your bill.
How long will NRG provide my energy service?
NRG will provide your service until you cancel or switch suppliers. If you enroll on one of our fixed-price plans, your contract will typically automatically roll over to a different plan once your plan expires. If you renew your service, you’ll roll onto your chosen renewal plan and remain on that plan for the term length stated in your plan details.
Are there options to get a secure energy rate?
Yes! If you’re interested in having certainty about what your supply price will be, we offer fixed-price options that give you the security of knowing your supply price won't change for the length of your plan.
Where can I find current and historical pricing?
Visit the State Information page and search for your state page where you will find pricing information.
